ToonSquid is a feature-rich 2D art and animation studio designed for iPad. It offers a flexible layer system that allows users to combine the charm of hand-drawn traditional animation with automatically animated layer properties through keyframes. The app boasts a vast library of customizable pixel and vector brushes, including a smudge tool, animated text and vector shapes, video and audio layers, camera movements, symbols, and many other features. With ToonSquid, bringing your creative vision to life becomes effortless.

The app excels in traditional animation capabilities. Users can create frame-by-frame animations with a hand-drawn touch. Controlling the duration of each drawing in the timeline is also made easy. Additionally, ToonSquid permits drawing in resolutions of up to 4k.

Keyframe animation is another powerful feature of ToonSquid. The app enables users to add keyframes to automatically animate layer properties over time. Moreover, it provides a wide range of customizable easing curve presets for generating smooth and organic motion between keyframes.

One of ToonSquid's key strengths lies in its robust layer system. Users have the ability to define the order and length of each element within an animation using layers and drawings on a flexible timeline. Layers can be organized into groups for a streamlined workflow or for pre-compositing purposes. The camera layer allows users to easily define the visible portion of their animation in the export. Additionally, masking layers to other animated layers is made possible, with a selection of 27 industry-standard layer blend modes available for creating stunning compositing effects.

The app offers fully customizable brushes that enable users to create gorgeous brush strokes using ToonSquid's cutting-edge digital brush engine. It also takes full advantage of Apple Pencil's pressure and tilt sensitivity as well as the iPad Pro's 120Hz display for a seamless and lag-free drawing experience. With the option to use vector brushes, users can create sharp brush strokes at any zoom level. The ability to edit over 60 brush settings and import custom textures allows users to tailor their brush library to their individual art style. ToonSquid also provides a smudge tool for blending strokes together and supports various drawing styles such as sketching, inking, wet mixing, and pixel art. Furthermore, the app allows users to export and share their customized brushes and import their existing library of Adobe® Photoshop® brushes.

ToonSquid offers an efficient symbol workflow. Users can divide their animation into separate clips which can then be reused multiple times using symbols. Making edits to an animation clip will automatically update all instances of the corresponding symbol. Frame markers can be used for quickly adding keyframes that represent different parts of a symbol, facilitating tasks like lip-syncing.

The app includes text functionality, enabling users to add text layers and animate their appearance. It supports importing and usage of various fonts, including bidirectional text and IMEs for non-Latin-based languages.

ToonSquid also provides vector shape tools that allow users to quickly add common vector shapes from a shape library or create custom shapes using the path tool. Shapes can be filled and stroked with gradients, with the ability to directly edit them on the canvas. Users can animate the visible length of a path by utilizing its trim properties.

Color management in ToonSquid is seamless with its powerful color picker offering a variety of interfaces to select precise colors for work. Users can create custom color palettes to streamline their workflow and even share them outside of the application. The pipette tool allows users to pick colors directly from the canvas, while the fill tool offers efficient filling of connected regions.

Audio and video capabilities are integrated into ToonSquid, allowing users to add audio clips to their timeline and perform lip-syncing animations. Users can scrub through the timeline and hear the exact audio that matches each frame of their animation. Furthermore, ToonSquid supports importing videos, GIFs, and images into projects and enables working with them through symbols.

The transform features in ToonSquid enable users to animate properties such as position, rotation, and scale of each layer through keyframes. The pivot point of a layer can be customized, and transform layers can be added to build hierarchies for more advanced movements. The canvas provides a visual representation of the layer's complete motion path, which users can directly edit.

ToonSquid offers multiple export formats, allowing users to share their work in popular formats including MP4, MOV, GIF, PNG, JPEG, TIFF, and more.
